Some Google Pixel owners say they've been experiencing problems with backups for months

Some owners of Google"s Pixel flagship phones have been experiencing ongoing issues with backing up data from their devices. The reports on Google"s support forums go back months, with some users complaining about the problems since shortly after the Pixel and Pixel XL launched in October 2016.

As Android Police reports, the issues prevent one or more types of data from successfully backing up to Google"s servers. In most instances, this affects text messages, call history, and apps, but some users have reported combinations of these backup failures along with others. In a handful of cases, the backups completely fail for all categories of data.

If you own a Pixel or Pixel XL, you can check whether or not all of your data is backing up properly by going to the Backup settings on your device. If certain categories of data are listed as "waiting to backup" while others show a "last sync" date and time, your handset may well be affected, and you may wish to consider alternative backup methods if you want to make sure that you have a copy of your data stored in case your device is lost, or needs to be replaced or reset.

You might also want to report the issue to Google via one of the support forum links at the end of this article, to help them resolve the problem more quickly. Google has so far acknowledged the issue - and one of its support team said he was experiencing it too - but it remains unresolved so far, and the more data they have to investigate, the more likely they are to find a fix.
