Some Lumia 950 and 950 XL orders in the UK are being delayed due to ‘software issues' [Update]

Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 10 flagship devices, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, are scheduled to arrive in the United Kingdom today via the Microsoft Store. British retailer ‘Argos’ is also offering the device, but in a text message recently distributed to customers, the retailer states that the launch of these devices has been pushed back due to "software issues".

Hello, this is an important message from Argos. Microsoft have regrettably advised that, following some unexpected software issues, the release of the Microsoft Lumia will be slightly delayed. You will now receive you order […] no later than 06/12 and you will be notified once your order has been despatched. Apologies for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience

Windows 10 Mobile is now publicly rolling out via these flagship devices in numerous countries, but despite this, still contains small bugs and areas that need further polish. The software issues that are mentioned aren’t immediately clear, but with the current state of the operating system, it"s possible that a new build is closer than initially thought. If this is the case, it is unlikely that Argos will be willing to update the handsets before distribution.

It appears that orders made via the Microsoft UK Store are unaffected, however, this has the potential to change, as the phones are still to be dispatched.

Update: A Microsoft spokesperson contacted Neowin today with a statement:

“Deliveries to UK customers who have already placed their order for a new Lumia phone will take place from December 3rd as planned. A minor configuration issue at our manufacturing facility resulted in a slight delay to one batch but was quickly rectified.”

For what it"s worth, we"ve also heard from numerous users who pre-ordered the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, and who received shipping confirmation and tracking details yesterday. Neowin"s own Andy Weir was among them, and his handset arrived today, less than 24 hours after being dispatched. Most users should receive their devices on time - but hopefully the unlucky few affected by the delay won"t have to wait too long.
