If the war between Dolby Vision and HDR10 makes your head hurt, you might want to check out the latest 4K Blu-ray player by Sony. At CES 2018 in Las Vegas, the Japanese electronics giant announced its first Dolby Vision and HDR10 capable media device, in addition to a Dolby Atmos AV 7.2 channel receiver.
However, Sony also announced its new 4K HDR AV receiver, which it hopes will be purchased alongside the aforementioned player. According to the company, these two devices complement each other, with the STR-DH790 offering unparalleled quality, thanks to its lossless HDR10 and Dolby Vision passthrough.
It will also allow you to seamlessly connect it to your already established speaker setup thanks to its advanced automatic setup system called Advanced D.C.A.C. (Digital Cinema Auto Calibration).
Sony revealed that the UBP-X700 Blu-ray player will become available this month, with the 4K HDR AV receiver launching in several configurations later in the year. Pricing for both of these devices will be announced at a later stage. The aforementioned Blu-ray player will get Dolby Vision support in a firmware update in the summer.
