Today at the company"s IFA 2017 briefing, Sony announced a trio of new Xperia smartphones, including the XZ1, XZ1 Compact, and XA1. Last week, the XZ1 had appeared in leaked images, but now it"s finally here.
The former two, the XZ1 and XZ1 Compact, both use a Snapdragon 835 chipset and are among the first handsets that will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo. They include Sony"s newest Motion Eye rear camera, which offers a 19-megapixel resolution and a 1/2.3-inch lens - and it includes features like Predictive Capture, which detects things like action and smiles before you press the shutter button, and 960fps slow motion video capture.
The front camera is 13MP with a 1/3.06-inch lens on the XZ1 and an 18MP 1/4-inch lens on the Compact. The other difference is that the former has the larger 5.2-inch 1080p display, with the Compact offering a 4.6-inch 720p screen.
Both the Xperia XZ1 and the XZ1 Compact will be available in September globally. The XZ1 will come in Moonlit Blue, Venus Pink, Warm Silver, and Black, while the XZ1 Compact will be offered in White Silver, Black, Horizon Blue, and Twilight Pink.
The Xperia XA1 Plus focuses on "best in class entertainment in the palm of your hand", packing a 5.5-inch 1080p display and "immersive audio performance". Shipping with Android Nougat, its camera is 23MP, with a 1/2.3-inch lens and an 8MP 1/4-inch front sensor.
Like the XZ1 duo, it offers 4GB RAM, but it"s promising all-day battery life with 3,430mAh of juice. This one doesn"t include a Snapdragon processor; instead, it uses MediaTek"s octa-core Helio P20 chipset, which is clocked at 2.3GHz for four cores and 1.6GHz for the other four.
Coming in White, Gold, and Black, and Xperia XA1 Plus will be available this autumn.
