Sony Ericsson announces new smaller Xperia smartphones

The Xperia line of mobile phones will soon have some new and smaller editions. Engadget reports today that Sony Ericsson has just revealed plans to release the Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro smartphone. Both versions will be running the newest version of the Android phone operating system (version 2.3. also known as Gingerbread).Both phones will also have a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor running things inside.

The Xperia Mini will have a three inch touch screen and of course access to the Android Market to download and purchase tons of apps for the phone. It"s also the smallest smartphone based on Android that will has support for up to 720p video recording as well as a 5 megapixel camera. The Xperia Mini Pro, shown in the image above, has a sliding keyboard for easy messaging. Business users can also sync up their email and calendar info with the new phone. Both the Xperia Mini and the Xperia Mini Pro should be released worldwide sometime in the third quarter of 2011. The Xperia line of phones includes the Xperia Play, also known as the "Playstation Phone". It was officially announced last February with the claims of being able to play games specifically made for the phone. However the first reviews for that product have been mixed and there also have been supply issues that have hampered the release of the phone in certain markets.
