Despite having made generally unremarkable phones for the past couple of years, Sony is still trying to compete in the market, and the Xperia 1 II flagship introduced earlier today does pack some interesting capabilities. To go along with it, Sony has also introduced the new Xperia 10 II, which follows the same naming scheme, and is also a successor to last year"s Xperia 10. Notably, though, there"s no plus-sized model this year.
Like the Xperia 1 II, the Xperia 10 II features a display with a 21:9 aspect ratio, but it packs a lower 2520x1080 resolution. The ultra-wide format is meant to provide an optimal viewing experience for cinema video, and it also provides a better aspect ratio for split-screen multitasking. It also packs a handful of audio features, including support for High-Resolution Audio both through the 3.5mm headphone jack and through Bluetooth.
As far as specs go, it"s powered by Qualcomm"s Snapdragon 665 chipset, and it has 4GB of RAM. There"s 128GB of onboard storage, but that can be expanded with a microSD card. To keep it running, there"s a 3,600mAh battery, which also supports the company"s Xperia Adaptive Charging and Battery Care technologies to minimize the negative impacts of overcharging.
For your camera needs, there"s a 12MP main sensor with a 26mm focal length, an 8MP ultra-wide camera with a 16mm focus length, and another 8MP sensor for telephoto images, with a 56mm focus length. The front-facing camera is also 8MP.
Finally, the Xperia 10 II promises to be pretty durable, with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 covering the display and both IP65 and IP68 ratings for water and dust resistance. The reason these are separate ratings is that they"re not cumulative. The 5 symbolizes resistance to water jets, and the 8 symbolizes resistance to immersion up to a minimum of 1 meter.
The Xperia 10 II will be available in the spring in either black or white.
