Today, Sony Computer Science Laboratories (Sony CSL) launched an AI-assisted music production service, FlowMachines. At its core lies Flow Machines Profession (FM Pro), which integrates human creativity and an AI-based recommendation system that proposes melodies, chords, and bass allowing creators to tailor their content according to their taste.
FM Pro achieves this by expressing the style and rhythm of the song with Style Palette, which is a machine learning model that analyzes music data developed by Sony CSL. To use it, a user first launches the FlowMachines Pro plug-in within a digital audio workstation (DAW) and selects a style palette based on the chord progression of the song they want to create. After this, the user can press "compose" and the Style Palette will present multiple candidates (4 bars x 4 patterns or 8 bars x 2 patterns) of melodies with accompanying chords and bass according to the selected chord progression.
If the proposed candidates fit their purpose, the user can then simply drag and drop them into a track in the DAW. If not, the user can press compose again to obtain a different set of candidates. Once the chords have been chosen, the music performance information can be used directly as MIDI data.
A faux demo of this model can be found on FlowMachines" homepage. The first track created using the service has already been released on a Lo-Fi Beats YouTube channel. You may check it out here.
