During its segment at CES 2022, Sony finally revealed more details about the PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2), its successor to the PlayStation VR (PS VR) that was released back in 2016. The "next generation" virtual reality system comes with a revamped headset, Sense controllers, and a brand new Horizon title.
Sony boasts that its latest setup will enable gamers to feel more sensations than before, creating an immersive experience thanks to a 4K HDR, 110 degree, foveated view. Players should look forward to frame rates of 90Hz and 120Hz at a display resolution of 2000x2400 per eye. The VR headset packs integrated cameras so you don"t need an external capturing device to translate your movements in-game. It also features eye tracking so that even the slightest motion of your eye triggers an input to react against.
Other headlining features are the sensory capabilities which include 3D audio via Tempest, headset feedback, and the Sense controllers which will behave quite similar to the PlayStation 5"s DualSense.
Fans of Guerilla Games" Horizon series will be happy to know that a PS VR2 title called Horizon Call of the Wild in collaboration with Firesprite games, you can also watch a short trailer here. A key observation here is that Sony"s blog post keeps referring to it as an "experience" rather than a "game" so expect it to be just that, with the company using this IP to showcase the power and capabilities of its PS VR2 platform.
Players will be taking control of a new character rather than the established protagonist Aloy, but will meet both old and new NPCs along the way. The experience is slated to arrive on February 18, 2022 with more details expected soon.
