Sony announced its top-of-the-line smartphone, the Xperia XZ2 Premium back in April. The device features a 4K HDR display, along with Sony’s X-Reality technology right from the company’s BRAVIA television range, something you wouldn’t find in smartphone displays. The handset also comes with a dual camera setup at the back, dubbed the ‘Motion Eye Dual camera’ and clubs together a color sensor along with a black-and-white sensor to process images and enable ridiculously high ISO sensitivities for images and videos.
However, high-end specs guarantee a high price tag, with this device being no exception. The phone was expected to be available for pre-orders starting July 9 for an asking price of a staggering $999.99 from retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy. Today, as promised, the XZ2 Premium is now available for pre-order for Amazon for the said $999.99 price-tag. Additionally, Amazon is also offering a free pair of Xperia Ear Duo wireless earphones for those that pre-order the device. The handset will be released in the U.S. on the 30th of July.
To those that are unaware, the XZ2 Premium packs a 5.8-inch HDR display with a 4K resolution (2160 x 3840). It is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage that is expandable via microSD expansion. The body of the device is adorned by Gorilla Glass 5 at the front and the back. The handset houses a 3,540mAh battery and can be wirelessly charged. In the camera department, in addition to the dual setup for the rear shooters (an f/1.8 19MP color sensor and an f/1.6 12MP black-and-white sensor), the front-facing shooter is a 13MP image-stabilized sensor. Just like the XZ2 line-up of devices the camera can record super-slow motion videos at a whopping 960 frames per second.
