After announcing its Xperia XZ3 flagship smartphone in August of last year during the IFA, Sony is now expected to unveil its 2019 premium handset at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC). However, the company"s moniker for its flagship device may be rebranded, if a new leak from Evan Blass (@evleaks) is any indication.
Blass tweeted a render of what he calls the Xperia 1 in a purple color variant, showing off a display with a 21:9 aspect ratio that was first seen in an earlier leak by Ice universe (@UniverseIce). The display"s design called CinemaWide was then confirmed in a trademark filed by the Japanese electronics giant with the European Union Intellectual Property Office earlier this month.
However, the previously leaked image was supposed to be of the Xperia XZ4, the rumored successor to the XZ3. The latest render from Blass suggests that Sony may be dropping the XZ naming scheme in favor of a simpler one.
Unlike other smartphone companies like Xiaomi that have been gradually providing small bits of information about their offering prior to the official unveiling, Sony has been holding back. But previous rumors claim the company"s next-generation flagship device will have a 6.5-inch OLED display with a 3360 x 1440 resolution. It"s also expected to ship with Qualcomm"s Snapdragon 855 SoC and feature a triple-lens camera with a 52MP main lens.
