Spotify could make its hardware debut at April 24 event

On April 24, Spotify will hold an event in New York City to announce something new. While it is unclear from the invitation what exactly will come of the event, it looks like it could be some new hardware.

The company is known for its music streaming service that has millions of listeners but in a few weeks, it could also become a hardware distributor. According to The Verge, the firm has been working on a physical controller that can be mounted in your vehicle and a stand-alone player. The controller would allow users to control the music simply by using their voice.

There is credence to this as some Spotify users were offered a device as part of a $12.99 a month subscription that would include a device and also the music service. Users that were offered this were required to commit to a one year contract costing a total of $155.88. As for how the device looks, it"s actually rather simple and elegant, as can be seen in the image at the top of this post.

If you aren"t a fan of voice, you can also use physical buttons to control the music like enabling shuffle mode, and more. There are even reports that a cellular-connected version of the device exists, which would allow the unit to work untethered from a smartphone. Unfortunately, it is unknown whether these devices will make their debut later in the month, as Spotify has not officially commented on the devices or what will be unveiled at the event. Luckily, we won"t have to wait long to find out.
