Remember Clubhouse? The audio-only social platform was all the rage in the last couple of years but the excitement surrounding it has decreased quite a bit in the past few months. Up until last year, it was so popular that many companies were essentially forced to launch competing services to grab market share in this domain.
One of these firms was Spotify, which launched "Greenroom" in June 2021. Today, it has announced that it is rebranding Spotify Greenroom to Spotify Live, and that it will be integrated with the main app.
While Spotify hasn"t detailed the reason behind the rebranding, "Live" does have a clearer connotation than the term "Greenroom". More importantly, Spotify Live content can now be accessed directly inside the main Spotify app, so you don"t need to download the dedicated app if you just plan to listen in to content from artists.
At the start, live audio will only be available for select original programs in the Spotify app, you can check more details about the shows here. Live programming will be accessible via the content creator"s page.
And if you"re wondering if the Spotify integration defeats the purpose of downloading the Spotify Live app, that"s not the case yet. If you intend to join the host on the virtual stage or engage in the chat, you will still need to install the dedicated Spotify Live app. You can download the Spotify Live app from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store here and here, respectively.
