Digital assistants have become an integral part of our smartphones. Currently, all major mobile operating system creators have their own voice assistant. In addition to supporting various voice commands, these assistants often integrate with third-party services; Samsung"s Bixby is no different.
During the recent Galaxy Note8 announcement, Samsung"s director of product marketing, Jonathan Wong, mentioned that the company is bringing Spotify integration to its digital assistant later this year. That means, if you have Bixby on your device, you will soon be able to control Spotify"s music playback with it.
Samsung debuted Bixby with its Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones back in March. However, it didn"t support the US market until July. As of now, the assistant is available in more than 200 markets.
Currently, only three Samsung handsets support the virtual assistant: the Galaxy S8, S8+, and Note8. It"s worth mentioning that all of these devices have a dedicated Bixby button, a feature many users want to utilize otherwise.
The integration with Spotify will definitely help users who rely on Bixby and the streaming service. It remains to be seen how the introduction of these services plays out in the long term; the battle of the digital assistants is warming up.
