Spotify limits its Premium for Students plan in the UK

Spotify has announced an update to its terms of service for its UK Premium for Students plan. Spotify will now limit Student subscriptions to a maximum of four years per user.

The change, announced by email, will take effect on October 28th, 2018. Previously, users could renew their Premium for Students subscription for as long as they remain students. However, Spotify is now limiting this to "three additional 12-month periods, after your initial 12-month verification period has expired".

This limitation will affect all current Student subscribers. Spotify has also updated their website accordingly, as shown below.

This update brings the UK Premium for Students plan in line with Spotify"s student plans in other countries, but Spotify has not offered any rationale behind the four-year limit.

The change will impact those who remain in higher education for longer than four years, such as Masters and PhD students.
