Verizon Wireless and AT&T, the nation"s number one and number two wireless carriers, have recently launched their versions of a data sharing plans for smartphones and tablets. Verizon introduced the Share Everything plan in June and AT&T launched the Mobile Share plan one month later.
Both companies have tried to make the argument that their data sharing plans are more economical for a family to use. That"s not how Sprint, the nation"s third biggest wireless carrier, sees it. This week, Sprint announced it will be taking on Verizon and AT&T"s data sharing plans head on with a new marketing campaign.
According to Sprint vice-president Caralene Robinson, "The concept of sharing a monthly data allowance across a family or group of users increases the likelihood for a surprise monthly bill due to data overage charges."
Sprint offers its customers the choice of a truly unlimited data plan for its smartphones. In addition to the new ad campaign, including the TV commercial shown above, Sprint has launched a new website that tries to show how its plan is cheaper compared to the data sharing plans from Verizon and AT&T.
Of course, some families may use less data than others so it may actually be cheaper to sign up for one of Verizon"s and AT&T"s plans. However, it"s hard to argue with Sprint"s viewpoint that having an unlimited plan eliminates a lot of issues with paying the cell phone bills.
T-Mobile apparently agrees; the nation"s fourth biggest wireless carrier will also launch its own unlimited data plans starting September 5th.
