Today, Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics detailed the upcoming enhancements for Rise of the Tomb Raider on the Xbox One X. The game, which launched in 2015, was a sequel to the blockbuster Tomb Raider reboot that launched in 2013. Microsoft announced it as a timed-exclusive to the Xbox platform at the time, and it launched on PlayStation 4 and PC the following year.
The developer has officially announced full support for the Xbox One X, which allows for the game to run at native 4K if the player chooses that option. The game will have three settings related to resolution and frame rate:
- Native 4K: (full 3840 by 2160) for highest fidelity resolution
- Enriched Visuals for stunning graphic upgrades
- High Frame Rate for the smoothest possible gameplay
Additionally, the game will support Xbox One X-specific features such as:
- HDR display support for more vibrant and accurate color representation technology
- Spatial audio support, including Dolby Atmos®, for true 3D audio
- Enhanced texture resolution for Lara Croft®, NPCs, and environments, leveraging additional memory offered by the Xbox One X
- Improved anti-aliasing for immersive realistic details
Beyond these, Rise of the Tomb Raider will sport improvements to volumetric lighting and reflections, enhanced foliage, upgraded polygonal detail, and "amplified" texture filtering. All these enhancements can be viewed in the video below, and the update is expected to roll out alongside the Xbox One X.
The Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition went up for pre-order yesterday with it selling out at Amazon shortly after being announced. The standard edition will go on sale on November 7 and will have a retail price of $499 in the US; and according to Microsoft, it will simultaneously launch worldwide.
