As you probably know, Russia recently launched an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and it has already resulted in tremendous and unnecessary loss of life and property damage. Many game developers also operate out of Ukraine, and their safety is at risk. Due to this, Ukrainian developer GSC Game World has paused development of STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl. The game was already pushed back to December 2022, but its future remains unclear.
In a new video posted on the developer"s YouTube channel, the team said that STALKER 2"s development has been pushed to the sidelines. GSC Game World is currently focusing on making sure its developers are safe during the invasion.
STALKER 2 development will probably resume once the invasion is over, but it"s unclear when that"s going to be. Due to Western sanctions, the Russian economy, particularly the Ruble, is sinking. Even companies like Apple are pulling products from the aggressor. Hopefully, we"ll see a resolution in the coming days.
STALKER 2 is the sequel to 2007"s original. You once again venture into the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone that"s full of dangerous enemies, strange anomalies, and powerful artifacts. The game is currently available for pre-order, starting at $59.99, on the Xbox Store. Right now, it"s only been confirmed for PC and Xbox Series X|S. It"ll also be part of Xbox Game Pass at launch.
