The behemoth Star Citizen project of Cloud Imperium Games has hit another crowd-funding milestone. The total reached the impressive $350 million mark today. The in-development space trading and combat sim went past $300 million in June of 2020, meaning it made its latest $50 million in just nine months.
During that time, Star Citizen has flown through three major alpha updates: 3.10, 3.11, and 3.12. Combined, these have brought in features such as a new atmospheric flight model, further upgrades to planet visuals, inventory and storage system overhaul, as well as physical reactions for G-forces and weather elements on characters. The most recent update carried the first server-wide dynamic event and a hand-held tractor beam among its many additions.
However, the delayed story campaign side of the title, Squadron 42, hasn"t had any public showings lately, and it even missed its planned beta windows. Cloud Imperium Games revealed in late 2020 that it has decided to not showcase any more gameplay of the star-studded campaign publicly. Studio founder Chris Roberts said that no more release windows will be announced until the campaign portion is "closer to the home stretch and have high confidence in the remaining time needed to finish the game to the quality we want."
The Star Citizen official Progress Tracker can be found here, which displays how far along in development are the various upcoming elements and feature overhauls. Meanwhile, the page"s Release View section displays the planned Alpha updates, their contents, and tentative release windows.
The game"s first major update of 2021, Alpha 3.13, should be arriving quite soon to all backers, bringing with it improvements to refinery stations, planetary caves, alongside visual wear-and-tear for ships, new missions, and more.
UPDATE: The Funding Tracker displays the number of accounts that have signed up for the game (three million), not exclusively accounts that have funded it. The article has been updated to fix this mistake.
