As of 1pm EST today, the Star Wars Battlefront Open Beta has kicked off for the next 4 days on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC via Origin. The highly anticipated reboot of the acclaimed shooter series from 11 years ago has been available for pre-order for some time, and this is the first time fans will be able to play from the comfort of their own homes. PC players can sign up here.
The beta is comprised of two pieces, the Multiplayer portion and a Missions component, which is either single play or co-op scenario play. The multiplayer portion of the beta has two parts, a land based map and an AT walker map where players can duke it out in giant robots.
The original games were hugely popular due to the variety of gameplay, from first person shooter to vehicle combat to aerial flyby"s and even space combat. The new version is significantly smaller in scope in terms of the different missions styles, as well as having seemingly tighter maps if not actually smaller in size.
The beta runs until the end of the weekend, so take a moment to see if the game will be worth the purchase price come release time on November 17th, 2015 with the first DLC already scheduled for three weeks later, on December 8th. Players who pre-order will get DLC access one week sooner, which seems like a strange benefit for content coming out so soon after release.
