Star Wars Xbox 360 console to go on sale April 3

Star Wars fans and Xbox 360 fans will finally be able to come together in a couple of months. Today, Microsoft announced via the Major Nelson web site that the Star Wars special edition version of the Xbox 360 console will go on sale April 3. That"s the same day the long awaited Xbox 360 game Kinect Star Wars will go on sale. The Star Wars Xbox 360 console and Kinect Star Wars were both originally set for release in the fall of 2011 but Microsoft later decided to delay their release.

The Xbox 360 Star Wars console will be priced at $499.99. It will be sold in a special bundle that will include a white version of Microsoft"s Kinect motion controller camera and a gold colored version of the Xbox 360 controller made to look like the color of R2-D2"s droid companion C3PO. The console itself is painted in homage to R2-D2. The special version will also have a 320 GB hard drive and Star Wars-themed sounds. The console come with a copy of Kinect Star Wars and another Microsoft published Xbox 360 game, Kinect Adventures.

Kinect Star Wars, set during the prequel movie time period, will have the player take on the role of a Jedi Knight. The player will use the Kinect controller to do things like fight with light sabers, use Force powers and more. There will also be a Galactic Dance Off mode that will let players get their Kinect groove on with "Star Wars-themed pop tunes". People who purchase the Star Wars Xbox 360 console will also be able to exclusively unlock C-3PO in the Dance Off mode.

This weekend, the 3D version of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace is being released to theaters. A select number of AMC theaters will be showing live demos of Kinect Star Wars this weekend. You can check out the list of participating AMC theaters at its official web site.
