A few weeks ago, it was revealed that a new development studio, Oxide Games, had been formed thanks to seed money provided by the Stardock Strategic Investment Fund. Today, it was announced that same fund from Stardock has been used to help begin yet another company, Mohawk Games.
The Baltimore-based studio was co-founded by Soren Johnson, best known as the lead designer for the acclaimed strategy game Civilization IV. He is joined by Dorian Newcomb, the art director of its successor, Civilization V. Brad Wardell, founder and CEO of Stardock, will also be President of Mohawk Games while Johnson will serve as its CEO.
Johnson and Newcomb are already developing their first strategy game, codenamed "Mars", and are now recruiting for more team members to join them in their studio. While the specific details on the game have yet to be revealed, it will use the 64-bit Nitrous Engine that is being developed by Oxide Games. Johnson also stated, "Our goal is to make games that will be played for years, based on elegant, replayable systems that are not limited by finite content creation." A release date for "Mars" has yet to be announced.
