As older devices get replaced by their newer counterparts, the former group starts to lose support for certain features and services. This is what Sony, maker of the PlayStation family of devices, has announced today.
In a post on its PlayStation Blog, the company stated that effective August 15, 2017, support for the PlayStation Now subscription service will be discontinued for the following devices:
- PlayStation 3
- PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV
- All 2013, 2014, 2015 Sony Bravia TV models
- All Sony Blu-ray player models
- All Samsung TV models
However, just a couple of months from now, on April 1st, access to the service via 2016 models of Sony Bravia TVs will cease.
This move comes as a result of the company focusing its efforts and resources on the newer PlayStation 4 console, and Windows PCs, thus allowing for a strategy centered around future growth.
Users who do not wish to be subscribed anymore must disable auto-renewing, so the subscription ends by April 1st (2016 Sony Bravia TVs) or August 15th (all other devices). People on 3 month subscriptions need to pay particularly close attention, as these can get auto-renewed a month or two before the service discontinuation date, if not explicitly turned off.
