State of Decay 2 gains Xbox Series X|S enhancements and a new Lethal difficulty mode

Undead Labs is the latest Xbox Game Studios developer to bring next-gen enhancements to its wares, as State of Decay 2 is now optimized for the new Xbox Series X and Series S consoles.

Both of the new consoles will run the survival title at 60FPS, but on the Series X, the resolution will be set at 4K, while the Series S will run the game at 1080p. Aside from higher performance, improved world and shadow details, as well as "blazingly fast load times", are promised for both consoles by the developer too. Further enhancements are also being worked at behind the scenes for the future.

Also landing today is the new Lethal difficulty mode for players who"ve been asking for an even more brutal survival experience. Described as the "very toughest version of State of Decay 2 that you’ve ever seen," the new mode turns up the difficulty even higher than Nightmare, with deadlier zombies, much scarcer resources and vehicles, all survivors having a morale penalty, faster death from Blood Plague, and all Freaks now being Blood Plague Freaks, among other changes.

There"s also new equipment and outfits as part of the Stay Frosty Pack, four new achievements, and plenty of balance tweaks. The complete changelog for today"s Lethal update can be found here.

State of Decay 2 is available on PC (Microsoft Store, Steam, Epic Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass subscription programs. Undead Labs is also working on State of Decay 3, though a release window has not been announced yet.
