New State of Decay 2 details have emerged in a blog post by Undead Labs, revealing that the game will include three maps at launch, and each one will roughly be the same size as the original "Trumbull Valley" map of State of Decay.
Every map comes with its own home sites, different environments, landmarks, mission types and more. The decision to incorporate individual maps instead of a larger, combined world is evidently to reduce repetitive gameplay elements. The blog also hints at additional maps being added later on, probably as DLC.
A large aspect of the game is based around building a community in highly defensible home site locations, where survivors must use scavenged supplies to improve and maintain them while also avoiding the whole zombie situation. Since convincing players to move to a new region after spending time and resources at one location could be tricky, the developer"s current plans are as follows, although adjustments may be made later on:
"The intent is for us to be able to take all of our people, and everything in our supply lockers and rucks. We’ll have all the vehicles parked in our home site parking spaces, along with whatever’s stored in the trunks. We’re also going to get at least a partial refund on what we sunk into building our facilities."
Microsoft announced State of Decay 2 back at E3 2016, arriving as an Xbox Play Anywhere title sometime in 2017. In addition, details regarding its release date is set to come at E3 this year.
