The annual Steam Summer Sale is back in town, bringing with it thousands of discounts to sort through. As expected from most major sales on the Valve platform, there"s a new event attached to it as well, though this one is permanent. Also returning are the usual server issues. At the time of writing, signing into the store is turning out to be a slightly task difficult thanks to the initial crunch.
In any case, the discounts will remain static throughout the two-week promotion, since flash deals and the like are a thing of the past. Some highlighted deals from the front page include Borderlands 3 for 50% off, a 25% discount on Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, Total War: WARHAMMER II for 66% off, and a 75% price cut on Planet Coaster.
Meanwhile, instead of a limited-time event, Valve has introduced a brand new Point Shop system that"s now a permanent addition to the Steam store. Much like previous redeem-shop events, Steam users will now gain 100 Steam Points for every $1 they spend on the store.
They can then redeem these points for specific emoticons, chat effects, backgrounds, and other profile customizations (instead of relying on random drops from card crafting), as well as granting Steam Point awards for community creations like useful user reviews and workshop content. Head over here to get a rundown of the Steam Points feature and check out what"s available for redeeming.
The 2020 Steam Summer Sale is slated to run until July 9 at 10AM PT, giving everyone two whole weeks to look over the behemoth promotion"s wares.
