The rumors are true: GameStop has now officially announced that it has begun to sell pre-paid Steam Wallet cards in all of its US stores. The cards come in $20 and $50 versions and can be used to pay for downloadable PC games on Valve"s service. GameStop customers can pay for the cards in cash or can even use credits for trading in games to purchase the cards.
In today"s press release, Jason Holtman, Valveās Director of Business Development, is quoted as saying:
GameStop is the most recognized game retailer in the world and a leader in providing a state-of-the-art shopping experience for its customers. Offering Steam Wallet codes at GameStop extends more options and convenience to gamers around to the world.
Having Steam Wallet cards sold in the thousands of GameStop retail stores represents a major coup for Valve and for the Steam service, and should allow for even more customers to access Steam that couldn"t before.
GameStop purchased the Impulse downloadable PC game service from Stardock over a year ago and since then the service has been integrated into GameStop"s business. So far, GameStop is still sticking with offering its own downloadable PC game service while it sells the Steam Wallet cards.
