So far in 2017, gamers have seen around half a dozen titles grace EA Origin"s "On the House" promotion, with the last of them being Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault. Depending on your region, the game was made available for free for up to 113 days and, while it ended up being one of the longest offered games of the year, its stint falls just short in comparison to the record of 129 days set by Nox late last year.
Now, a new game has made it into the rotation in the form of a more recent title, SteamWorld Dig. Released just before the end of 2013 on PC and the following two years on consoles, the PC version of the game garnered mostly positive reviews, receiving a score of 82.5% on GameRankings and 76% on Metacritic.
The basic premise of the game is fairly simple, dig around abandoned mines looking for undiscovered treasure then head back up to the surface to sell it off in order to buy upgrades - rinse and repeat to progress through the game.
SteamWorld Dig is relatively light in terms of its system requirements, which are as follows:
- OS: Windows XP (or newer)
- Processor: 2GHz
- Memory: 512MB RAM
- Graphics: OpenGL 2.1-compatible, 384MB video memory, framebuffer object support
- Storage: 193MB available space
- Sound Card: OpenAL-compatible
As always, there"s no harm in claiming a free copy of the game, particularly if you don"t want to play it immediately given that you can download it later on if you wish. Of course, don"t hesitate too long to add a complimentary copy of the game to your Origin library, as some titles have only been available for a little under a week before being replaced. That said, given how long Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault was offered, it may be a while before we see the next title rotated through the "On the House" promotion.
