Remember when it was cool when PC mice ditched the mechanical ball inside for an optical sensor? Well the team at SteelSeries wants to put a lot more technology in what may be your next gaming PC mouse. SteelSeries announced today plans to release the SteelSeries Sensei, a new mouse that actually has a 32-bit ARM-based processor inside. Why put a chip inside a gaming mouse? According to SteelSeries the ARM processor, " ... allows us to do sophisticated calculations directly on the mouse – without the need for software drivers and without having to rely on the user’s computer."
This new technology allows the Sensei to have a typical CPI range of between 1 and 5,700. However it can also go into a "double CPI" mode that will raise it up to 11,400. SteelSeries says having this kind of "overclocked" mode allows users of the mouse to operate it well even with several PC monitors. The Mouse also has a small LCD screen on its bottom which can show a menu of the mouse"s settings. It can even be customize to show off a logo of, say, your clan or pro gaming team"s logo.
The mouse itself has six programmable buttons (not including the scroll wheel) as well as button that controls the mouse"s CPI sensitivity. It also has a number of points of illumination that can be customized in 16.8 million colors. The Sensei also supports the SteelSeries Engine which offers additional features such as recording game sessions through a heat map that will allow users to improve button layouts and macro settings. The SteelSeries Sensei is scheduled to be released in September for $89.99.
