On Thursday, thousands of Microsoft employees gathered at the Key Arena in Seattle to attend their annual company-wide meeting. The workers were treated to a demo of an upcoming cloud-based game streaming service and were told that both Windows and Windows Phone will soon have one merged app store.
However, the main highlight of the event, according to the people who attended, was the appearance of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who recently announced his upcoming retirement. The Wall Street Journal reports that Ballmer got very emotional and even teared up near the end of the seven hour meeting, as he told his employees that Microsoft will continue to innovate and "change the world."
At the end of his speech, Ballmer departed the stage while the speakers at the Key Arena played, "(I’ve Had) The Time Of my Life", the 1987 pop music hit sung by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes as part of the movie Dirty Dancing. The tune actually won the Academy Award that year for Best Song.
Meanwhile the search for Ballmer"s replacement continues as new rumors hit the Internet on Thursday that current Ford CEO Alan Mulally is now considered to be the leading candidate for the Microsoft gig.
