Apple founder Steve Jobs officially died on Wednesday, October 5 at 3 pm in his home in Palo Alto, California, according to his official death certificate.
Bloomberg reports that the document lists Jobs" official cause of death as a respiratory arrest due to a "metastatic pancreas neuroendocrine tumor". Jobs had been known to be fighting pancreatic cancer for a number of years. Apple"s original announcement of Jobs" death last week at the age of 56 did not list the cause or his location.
The death certificate lists Jobs" occupation as an "entrepreneur" in the "high tech" business, a fitting description for the man who helped to launch Apple in the 1970s and then rebooted it in the 1990s, leading the company to launch products like the iMac, iPod, iPhone and finally the iPad. As we reported previously, the death certificate shows that Jobs was buried on Friday, October 7 in Santa Clara County, California in an unnamed non-denominational cemetery. The ceremony was private.
The Palo Alto, California police department was apparently notified a few days before Jobs passed away that he was close to dying. Whomever gave the information to the police was preparing them to deal with crowds of mourners that might show up at Jobs" residence. Many mourners did come to pay their respects to Jobs after his death was announced at their family home. Other people paid their respects to Jobs at a number of Apple retail store locations and also at Apple"s worldwide headquarters in Cupertino, California.
