In the world where video game adaptations rarely live up to the greatness that was its movie franchise, and vice versa, one would be forgiven to be a bit skeptical at the thought that a Netflix original show will be getting its very own game. Thanks to a partnership between the aforementioned streaming service and Bonus XP, Stranger Things: The Game has seen the light.
A mix between The Escapists and the original Zelda games on the NES, the game takes you into the strange world of the critically acclaimed series using period-accurate graphics. Here you can explore the small town of Hawkins and the parallel dimension called "The Upside Down". You play as Hopper and his gang of friends as you try to solve some of the strange things - in the way of puzzles - that have been happening in the surrounding area. Luckily you"ll be armed with the legendary Wrist-Rocket while taking on some bad guys.
Stranger Things: Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on October 27. Netflix has been on a spending binge as of late, as it announced that it will spend up to $7 billion in original content during the course of 2018. Recently, a Netflix Original movie has been considered for an Academy Award nomination, which sparked a debate of its eligibility for the said award.
The game, however, launches on iOS and Android today, and will be completely free - since the idea of a micro-transaction wouldn"t be true to the 80"s style - however, it will contain collectable items which will unlock more content as you go along.
You can download Stranger Things: The Game on iOS, or on the Google Play Store.
