For those that were hoping that Nintendo"s latest hybrid console would offer some other entertainment options - the answer is sadly, no. Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch will not launch with any streaming services.
The folks at IGN were able to get an official statement from a Nintendo rep which drives home the point that the Switch is a gaming system, not a tablet.
"All of our efforts have gone toward making the Nintendo Switch system an amazing dedicated video game platform, so it will not support any video-streaming services at launch. However, support for video-streaming services is being considered for a future update."
While this might be a bit of a bummer for now, Nintendo has not ruled out the possibility that the console will offer streaming apps in the future. In order to prevent a supply shortage, Nintendo will offer 2 million units globally for the month of March. While this may seem like a lot, demand for the console could be quite high, as pre-orders for the unit have already sold out. The Nintendo Switch will make its retail debut on March 3 and will be priced at $299.99.
