Two Point Studios, the developer behind the humorous hospital management title Two Point Hospital from last year, has a new owner, as Sega has acquired the studio through its European division. The Theme Hospital spiritual successor proved to be a runaway hit for Two Point Studios, with some of the original developers from Bullfrog and Lionhead also being involved in its development.
Sega was already serving as the publisher of Two Point Hospital, but this move has the UK-based 17 person-strong studio joining the ranks of other SEGA owned studios such as Creative Assembly (Total War), Sports Interactive (Football Manager), Relic Entertainment (Company of Heroes), and Amplitude Studios (Endless franchise.)
Sega Europe president and chief operations officer Gary Dale said this regarding the acquisition:
“We’re delighted to welcome Two Point Studios officially in to the SEGA family. As a relatively new, British-based developer with a global hit already under their belts, we knew we had to move quickly on this deal because they are an extremely attractive investment proposition with a great deal of talent."
Today"s announcement also teased at Two Point Studios" future plans, saying "several exciting unannounced projects" are in the works. Although no details were shared, we should expect new management games set in the Two Point universe. More information on these will be dropping in the coming months.
