Studio behind viral news animations up for sale

Next Media Ltd., the Taiwanese company behind those hilarious news videos that have become a YouTube sensation, is looking to unload their animation studio. The company, which also produces a wide range of newspapers, magazines and runs several TV channels, is offering its animation department along with its weekly Next Magazine and Apple Daily newspaper for $500 million dollars, according to Taipei Times.

Jimmy Lai, the owner of Next Media, has been referred to as the "Rupert Murdoch of Beijing." What the sale means for the future of their animated shorts remains to be seen, but things aren"t looking good.
