Subway Surfers for Windows phones discontinued, developer blames Microsoft

Subway Surfers has been one of the most popular endless runner on Windows phone devices. The developer, Kiloo, has been regularly updating the title, keeping it up to date with its Android and iOS counterparts. In 2016, the developer ended support for Windows Phone 8.1 and released a Windows 10 Mobile version.

However, it now appears that support for Subway Surfers on Microsoft"s latest mobile effort has officially been axed as well.

According to WindowsArea, the Kiloo support team has sent this response to customers inquiring about the game"s status on Windows phones:

Thanks for being a loyal player on the Windows platform!

Unfortunately, Cairo is the last update for Subway Surfers on the platform. You can keep enjoying the game, but we will not release further updates, due to the development plans of the platform owner.

Softpedia also reports that although the game will continue to work on Windows phones, it won"t receive further updates, and once it gets pulled from the Store at an unspecified date, it won"t be available to download again.

All in all, it"s not entirely surprising that Kiloo has ended support for Windows phones, particularly when the "platform owner" - that is Microsoft - itself has pretty much given up on the initiative. While a rumored "Surface Phone" has long been in development, third-party developer support for yet another mobile endeavor helmed by Microsoft remains to be seen.
