It"s been a long time coming, but after all the rumors and speculation, Nintendo has officially announced that SNES titles are coming to the Nintendo Switch system through the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service. Just like the NES titles that were available at launch almost a year ago, these games can be played at no additional cost.
The SNES titles will also feature the capabilities that Nintendo enabled in the NES games, including the ability to play online with friends in games that support multiplayer features, and the rewind feature that was introduced for NES games a couple months ago.
SNES games will be available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers starting tomorrow, September 5, starting with a batch of 20 games, which include Stunt Race FX, available in a new console for the first time since the original release. Here"s the full list:
BRAWL BROTHERS | Breath of Fire |
Demon"s Crest | F-ZERO |
Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics | Kirby"s Dream Course |
Kirby"s Dream Land 3 | Pilotwings |
Star Fox | Stunt Race FX |
Super E.D.F. EARTH DEFENSE FORCE | Super Ghouls"n Ghosts |
Super Mario Kart | Super Mario World |
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi"s Island | Super Metroid |
Super Puyo Puyo 2 | Super Soccer |
Super Tennis | The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past |
Of course, just as with the NES titles, more games will be added over time, so there"ll be more to look forward to in the future.
Additionally, as it did last year, Nintendo is releasing a special SNES-style wireless controller to be used with the Nintendo Switch, specifically for these titles. Unlike last year"s offerings, though, they don"t charge by docking into the Switch itself, and instead use a USB Type-C charger. They"re also sold individually, rather than in pairs. Available exclusive for Nintendo Switch Online members, the controller will cost $29.99.
