Super Smash Bros. Ultimate adds more characters to its roster via DLC [Update]

Nintendo is the last of the major gaming companies to host its E3 presentation, and it had a few news to share during the event. It kicked off with the announcement of new DLC characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Nintendo will be adding the main characters from Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age to the roster.

As is typically the case, the new characters have a number of unique abilities based on the franchise they came from. For example, the can set up a shield that bounces back attacks, turn into metal to reduce suffered damage, and more. They"re actually not individual characters, but the four of them can be used interchangeably during battle.

Nintendo didn"t specify when the characters will be available, though it did say it will happen sometime this summer. This is the second of five characters planned to be added to the game via paid downloadable content until 2020. Earlier this year, Nintendo also added Joker, a character from Persona 5.

Update: Later on in the Direct, Nintendo also announced another set of DLC characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. These characters are Banjo-Kazooie, from the series of games of the same name.

The Banjo-Kazooie games were developed by Rare Games, which Microsoft acquired in 2002. Many of the games in the franchise have since been Xbox-exclusive, but the characters are still being allowed into Nintendo"s game. The relationship between Nintendo and Microsoft has been very good in recent times, with the release of Cuphead on the Switch also being a good example of that.
