Microsoft released massive firmware updates to most of the Surface line of devices over the last month, starting with the Surface Laptop and Pro 4, followed by the 2017 Surface Pro, Book 2 and Pro 3. The updates included a whole host of improvements and fixes to reliability, performance and security. However, one device that was yet to receive these updates was the first generation Surface Book. That changes now, as that device too is receiving firmware updates with a long list of fixes and improvements.
The firmware and driver updates are rolling out for all Surface Book devices that are running the Windows 10 Fall Creators update (version 1709) or higher. According to Microsoft’s Value Indicator on the Surface Book Update History page, these updates improve security, reliability, compatibility and performance. The updates also include fixes to “resolve potential security vulnerabilities including Microsoft security advisory ADV180012 and ADV180013” that are related to the Spectre and Meltdown chipset vulnerabilities.
