Surface Pro 6 and Laptop 2 get firmware updates; some exclusive to Windows 10 1809

Last week, Microsoft"s Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2 became available, and now they"re getting their first firmware and driver updates. Interestingly, some of the updates are exclusive to the Windows 10 October 2018 Update, or version 1809, despite it being pulled from Windows Update earlier this month due to quality issues.

Both devices got two updates that will only show up on Windows 10 version 1809:

Surface Pen Firmware Update – System devices

  • 3.0.10.1 resolves intermittent pen top button click failure on Surface Pen with no clip-on Windows 10 October 2018 Update, version 1809.
Surface – HIDClass – 1.0.9.0

Surface Pen Integration Device – Human Interface Devices

  • 1.0.9.0 enables firmware update to Surface Pen with no clip.


There are four additional updates that are available for devices that are running the Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) or greater:

  • 239.5.139.0 improves system stability.
Intel(R) Cooperation System -9.21.00.3755

  • 9.21.00.3755 ensures music streaming services will not be interrupted after resume from sleep.
Intel(R) Cooperation System - 9.21.00.3755

Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller

  • 9.21.00.3755 ensures music streaming services will not be interrupted after resume from sleep.
Intel(R) Cooperation System - 10.25.00.10

Intel(R) Display Audio

  • 10.25.00.10 resolves battery consumption issue associated with Windows 10 October 2018 Update.


Finally, there"s one more update for just the Surface Pro 6, which is for Windows 10 version 1803 and greater:

Surface UEFI – Firmware

  • 234.2344.769.0 resolves an issue where processor speed may be capped at an unexpected low frequency.


Unfortunately, Microsoft hasn"t yet made a drivers and firmware bundle available for these devices, so you can"t install the updates manually. You"ll need to get them via Windows Update.
