When the Surface Pro was launched by Microsoft in early February, some users complained that the included stylus did not work completely with Adobe"s Photoshop application. Specifically, features such as pressure sensitivity and eraser functionality could not be used with the pen.
At the time, Microsoft said it was "working with the necessary partners to make advanced features of the Surface pen available across a number of applications in the near future." Three months later, it appears that time is over, if you know where to look
On Thursday, Surface leader Panos Panay posted word on Twitter that he was testing a beta for the Wacom driver on his own Surface Pro, adding, "Cool to see Pen pressure in #Photoshop. Releasing soon." Later that day, ZDNet reported that a Windows 8 Wacom driver is now available to download directly from Wacom"s website.
While the driver is designated for Windows 8, the Wacom software should work with the Surface Pro and its pen to enable features such as pressure sensitivity while using Photoshop and other applications. Microsoft might release its own firmware update for the Surface Pro this Tuesday during its regular monthly software releases so that its owners don"t have to download a separate driver.
