In July, Microsoft released a new firmware update for the Surface RT tablet, but not for the Surface Pro. Today, both versions of Microsoft"s PC hardware family received new automatic updates as part of the company"s monthly Patch Tuesday event.
The Surface RT patch notes state that its UEFI firmware update is designed to improve the audio of the tablet while it is set at low volume levels. The update also offers a fix for what Microsoft calls a "perceived pulsing" in the audio volume when the Surface RT is running certain types of content. Finally, the update improves the tablet"s system drivers to "enhance stability and reliability."
As far as the Surface Pro, the change notes for its latest firmware release are for both the UEFI and System Aggregator firmware. The website is a bit more general in tone, saying the fixes have been made to improve the "system stability" and the "reliability" of the Surface Pro. The updates are also designed to reduce the tablet"s power consumption but no specifics were mentioned. Finally, the update is supposed to have touch latency improvements when the Surface Pro is used with the optional Type or Touch Covers.
