Microsoft"s all-in-one, the Surface Studio, is turning two years old this year, and fans are eagerly awaiting the reveal of a successor. Microsoft recently announced that it will be hosting a hardware event next week on October 2, and while we don"t really know what will be announced at that time, it looks like a Surface Studio 2 might be among the new releases.
A recently discovered Geekbench listing mentions the successor to the 2016 all-in-one, but it may not be as impressive as some would have liked. According to the information on that page, Microsoft has decided to go with a seventh-generation (also known as Kaby Lake) processor for the device, forgoing the newer and more powerful eighth generation of CPUs. The device in question also has 32GB of RAM, though it"s almost certain that other variants would be available.
As is always the case, this information should be taken with a grain of salt until Microsoft confirms or denies it. It would be somewhat strange for the company to opt for such a minor update to the internals, especially after waiting two years to release a successor and with newer chips being on the market for some time.
The first-generation Surface Studio was heavily criticized by some customers for the fact that it had an underwhelming spec sheet, specifically in the graphics department, featuring the Nvidia"s GeForce 965M and 980M mobile GPUs. While this benchmark doesn"t provide us with information about graphics, it could make the Studio 2 as underwhelming as its predecessor.
