Surprise! Verizon announces the iPhone

After months, and even years of rumors, internal leaks, and even hardware leaks, the Verizon iPhone is finally here. President and Chief Operating Officer Lowell Macadam took the stage to talk about the success of Verizon at CES 2011 and how LTE is about to change the market.

Then, it finally happened. Lowell Macadam announced his extended partnership with Apple to bring the iPhone to a CDMA network.

"Our relationship with Apple has developed over the last two years. In 2008 we started talking about bringing the iPhone to a CDMA network. We spent a year testing."

After all the rumors, we finally have the very first CDMA iPhone in the world, and it"s coming to Verizon. The Verizon iPhone 4 will be available early February 2011. Steve Jobs wasn"t there to announce the iPhone 4 on Verizon, but Tim Cook took the stage to announce that features like FaceTime will still be available to customers.

The Verizon iPhone is no different from the one launched six months ago. It will still pack a 5MP camera for HD video, run an A4 processor and a Retina display. This partnership between Verizon and Apple means both companies will work together in the future, bringing the next wave of iPhones to the carrier.

The Verizon iPhone will go on sale at $199.99 for the 16GB model, and $299.99 for the 32GB model with a new 2 year agreement and compatible data plan. Customers will also receive a mobile hotspot, which allows up to five devices to connect to it. Customers can pre-order the iPhone on February 3, and purchase the device on February 10, 2011. One last surprise.. Verizon is offering the White iPhone for sale on their online store (which has since been removed.
