Small game studios are capable of great things. Look no further than the recent Ori and the Blind Forest for evidence of what "smaller games" can do for the games industry. The folks over at The Molasses Flood may be next in line for a breakout success as a small studio with their upcoming The Flame and the Flood, an crowd-funded Xbox One/PC/Mac title that just got received its release date.
If you aren"t already familiar with the The Flame and the Flood, it"s a cartoon-like survival/action game from the talented crew at The Molasses Flood - a development studio out of the Cambridge, MA area that consists of employees that were responsible for the creation of major games like Halo, Bioshock, Guitar Hero and Rock band. Clearly different from those AAA titles,The Flame and the Flood throws you into a post-societal America as a young girl with a dog companion, forced to fend off the elements and predators of the land with little/no help.
The game was funded on Kickstarter, where its campaign generated the $250,000 that allowed The Molasses Flood to get the project up and running. The Flame and the Flood not only carries a charming artistic look to it that might remind you of select Telltale Games releases, but it is also enhanced by what is shaping up to be a great soundtrack. Alt-Country artist Chuck Ragan spearheads the original music which will also feature supporting acts like The Camaraderie, The Fearless Kin as well as other special guests.
If you want to get your hands on The Flame and the Flood, you don"t have to wait much longer. The Molasses Flood just announced that it will be available on Xbox One, PC and Mac starting February 24, 2016.
