Survival horror game Outlast 2 is now available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4

The sequel to 2013"s critically acclaimed horror game, Outlast, is now available and follows a story set in the same universe as the original. The Red Barrels-developed game was initially slated for a 2016 release, but was later pushed to Q1 2017, followed by its last delay to April.

Outlast 2"s gameplay mechanics are pretty much identical to the original, where players are only equipped with a night vision camcorder to find their way around. However, using its night vision option drains the batteries quite quickly, so players must keep their eyes open for any extra batteries laying around, while avoiding all the ghastly enemies present in the game.

The game"s suitably creepy launch trailer is seen above, with its synopsis taken from the store page , which reads:

Outlast 2 introduces you to Sullivan Knoth and his followers, who left our wicked world behind to give birth to Temple Gate, a town deep in the wilderness and hidden from civilization. Knoth and his flock are preparing for the tribulations of the end of times and you’re right in the thick of it.

You are Blake Langermann, a cameraman working with your wife, Lynn. The two of you are investigative journalists willing to take risks and dig deep to uncover the stories no one else will dare touch.

You"re following a trail of clues that started with the seemingly impossible murder of a pregnant woman known only as Jane Doe.

The investigation has lead you miles into the Arizona desert, to a darkness so deep that no one could shed light upon it, and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do.

There was also controversy surrounding Outlast 2 in Austrailia last month, with reports confirming that the game has been banned in the country prior to its release due to depictions of implied sexual violence.

However, this turned out to be a mix-up by the developer, which had submitted the wrong gameplay footage for review to the Australian Classification Board. The game has since been re-approved for release in Austrailia.
