Suspect in celebrity hacking case says he's "sorry"

Christopher Chaney, the 35 year old man who was arrested on numerous computer hacking charges earlier this week, told reporters he was sorry for what he did and said that he had become "addicted" to his actions. Chaney is accused of hacking into PCs and online accounts of over 50 people who work in the entertainment industry, including actors like Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis and pop singer Christina Aguilera.

CNN.com reports that Chaney, who lives in Jacksonville, Florida, was ordered by a judge on Friday to go to California on November 1 and answer the charges he is accused of in a courtroom. Chaney currently has 26 computer hacking changes against him. If he is convicted of all of them he could face over 100 years in federal prison. On Friday Chaney told reporters, "I am very sorry for all of this." He added, "What I"m most sorry about is that I had to drag my mom into all of this, and my family and my neighbors and they just want to live their lives."

On Wednesday, Chaney told a reporter for WAWS/WTEV in Jacksonville that he first started hacking into accounts of entertainment industry people as a "curiosity" but later "it turned into just being, you know, addicted to seeing the behind-the-scenes of what"s going on with these people you see on the big screen every day." Law enforcement authorities have claimed Chaney tried to sell some of the pictures of celebrities he found during his hacking activities to entertainment blog sites. Chaney is currently free on an $10,000 unsecured bond but cannot have any access to any PCs or Internet connected devices.
