Last month, T-Mobile offered a promotion for those switching over from AT&T, promising a full year of AT&T"s DirecTV Now service, which had only launched in November. Apparently, the service has not gone over too well, with CEO John Legere saying the following:
“It turns out DIRECTV NOW is barely watchable, but we’ve got our customers’ backs! So, every former AT&T customer who took us up on our offer now gets a free year of Hulu on us – and they get to enjoy it on a faster, more advanced network with unlimited data! Even I can’t believe AT&T spent $67 billion on DIRECTV and still couldn’t roll out a streaming service that worked!
The press release also made shout-outs to The Verge, the New York Post, and Tom"s Guide, using quotes that call the service "a total disaster", "a complete mess", and "sluggish, buggy, and sometimes broken". In fairness, T-Mobile"s original press release from December said, "we offer no guarantees, since it’s an AT&T product after all".
All of the Un-carrier"s not-so-subtle snark aside, the firm is now offering a free year of Hulu for those that took it up on the DirecTV Now offer. On top of that, customers will get to keep the DirecTV Now service that they claimed.
For those that are eligible for this offer, you"ll receive a notification in the coming weeks with a code for a free year of Hulu. And to be clear, it"s the SKU that has commercials, rather than the new commercial-free option that costs $4 more.
