More customers of T-Mobile can now access the wireless carrier"s faster 4G HSPA + based network. In a press release today the company announced that the faster network is now available in 56 more cities and metro areas in the US. The additional cities include some major population areas such as Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, N.C., Indianapolis, Minneapolis, and Washington, D.C..
Today"s press release brings the total number of US cities with T-Mobile"s 4G HSPA + network to 152 with 170 million people now able to access the network which has a top theoretical download speed of 42 Mbps. So far the only product that can access the faster network is the Rocket 3.0 USB laptop stick and the HTC Sensation mobile phone. Another compatible phone, the upcoming T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide, will be released in the near future.
Other cities that can now access T-Mobile"s faster wireless network include Allentown, Pennsylvania, Asheville, N.C, Boise, Idaho, Charlottesville, West Virginia, Greenville, S.C., Knoxville, Tennessee, Providence, Rhode Island, Raleigh, N.C., Tallahassee, Florida, Tucson, Arizona. and more.
While T-Mobile continues its aggressive expansion of its faster wireless service, the company that wants to acquire T-Mobile, AT&T, has yet to turn on its own faster network which will be based on the LTE protocol. AT&T has said that it will turn the switch on the first cities in the US with the faster LTE network sometime this summer. Meanwhile Verizon, which has been expanding its own LTE 4G network for the past eight months, will go over the 100 cities and metro area mark later this month.
