Tails 3.2 released with several changes and Linux 4.12

Whenever Mozilla pushes out a new version of its Firefox web browser, you can always guarantee that an update to the Tor Browser and the Tails operating system will be close behind, alas, with Firefox 56 being released on Thursday, Tails 3.2 followed close behind. The release ships with Linux Kernel 4.12.12 which should improve hardware support if you"ve been having any issues, the NVIDIA Maxwell graphics card is a notable bit of kit supported by the new kernel.

A key change to with this release is that you now need an 8GB USB stick to install Tails, up from the previous 4GB, so get your hands on one of those as soon as possible if you don"t have a spare. If you run Tails from a 4GB USB device at the moment, that will be eligible to upgrade to Tails 3.2. No reason was provided as to why you now need 8GBs but it could be because theymake upgrades more reliable.

Other changes include the GNOME virtual keyboard replacing the Florence on-screen keyboard, a Thunderbird update to version 52.3, and the randomization of ASLR has been upped to maximum helping to protect against exploitation of memory corruption vulnerabilities.

The upgrade is available right now, requiring just a boot up of a Tails disk running versions 3.0 or 3.1, but not 3.0.1, and you"ll be prompted to upgrade as soon as you"ve connected to the internet and a Tor connection has been established. The download was less than 300mb when we downloaded it, but it is downloading over the Tor network so allow some time for it to complete.
