Ghostwire: Tokyo, the upcoming action horror title by the Microsoft-owned studio Tango Gameworks, will no longer meet its original October 2021 launch window. The developer announced today on Twitter that to make sure the health of its workers is not put at risk, it has made the decision to delay the title to early 2022.
"We want to get the game in your hands as soon as possible so you can experience the unforgettable version of a haunted Tokyo that we’ve been hard at work building," the Japan-based studio explained. "At the same time, we’re also focused on protecting the health of everyone at Tango."
Although now situated as an Xbox Game Studios developer, Tango Gameworks" latest title is only coming to the PlayStation 5 and PC. This is due to an exclusivity agreement Bethesda signed with Sony before Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media and its studio portfolio, including Tango, earlier this year. The console exclusivity is timed, so the title will reach the Xbox Series X|S platforms (as well as Game Pass) most probably after a year of staying with PlayStation.
"Our new release window will give us time to bring the world of Ghostwire to life as we’ve always envisioned it," added the studio. Previously, Tango Gameworks has been responsible for the hit horror series The Evil Within.
Ghostwire: Tokyo is set in a supernatural setting where almost all of the city"s inhabitants have vanished to be replaced by ghostly apparitions. At the same time, our main character has gained a range of psychic and paranormal abilities to fight back against these spirits, with the game offering hand-to-hand and magic-based combat.
